Choqok and YoURLs
Hey Readers!
Today, I'm going to discuss how to use the YoURLs shortening service, with Choqok!
Now, some of you KDE/QT using readers may use this fine piece of software already. And some of you may have, or have a friend who lets you use, a hosted URL shortener, called YoURLs. This short how-to is aimed towards the users who have the secured, non-public configuration.
You will need:
- Choqok 1.2 or higher
- a private YoURLs install
- The Signature Token ( found on the tools page of YoURLs )
And, that's it. Once you have these ready, on to the configuration!
Step one: Fire up Choqok. Easy enough. Let's see.
Step two: From the Settings menu, select Configure Choqok..., then, click on the URL Shortening tab ( Or press ALT+S to get there )
Step three: Select Yourls from the list. On my install, it's right between bit.ly and urls.io
Step four: Click the configure button ( my icon set has it with a wrench)
Step five: Enter the Yourls API URL as follows: http://yourdomain.com/path-to-yourls/yourls-api.php?signature=Paste_sign...
Leave the Username/Password fields blank, and click OK. Your Choqok is now configured to use YoURLs! Now, two settings I like to have checked on the URL Shortening tab are the "Shorten URLs on paste" and "Remove "http://" from shortened URLs". That way, to shorten a URL, all I have to do is just paste the long URL in.
Now, if only I could get t.co to stop LENGTHENING my URLs, I'd be quite happy...
See you in the next post!
